7th in the Championship Section at the North West Areas

1 March 2026

Wardle Anderson Brass Band returned from the North West Area Championships with a 7th place finish in the Championship Section โ€” a result that reflects both the talent of our players and the exciting new direction the band is heading in.

It was a day of outstanding brass band music, fierce competition and real pride for everyone connected with Wardle Anderson. Competing in the Championship Section against some of the finest bands in the North West, we performed Martin Ellerby's Elgar Variations โ€” a substantial and demanding test piece โ€” under the watchful ears of adjudicators Dr Robert Childs and Gavin Saynor.

To finish 7th in a section of this calibre is something we are genuinely proud of. Perhaps more importantly, it's a result that tells a story: a band that has been through a period of change and is emerging stronger, more focused and more exciting than ever.

At the heart of this result is our new Musical Director, Jamie Cooper. The progress Jamie has made with the band in such a short time has been remarkable. His dedication, musical vision and ability to get the very best out of every player have been clear for all to see, and this performance was a real testament to his work. We're incredibly fortunate to have him at the helm, and we look forward to everything that lies ahead under his direction.

To every player who took to the stage: you should be immensely proud. You represented the band brilliantly, and the hard work you've put in over recent months shone through in every note.

Community Band wins first time out ๐Ÿ†

A massive congratulations, too, to our Community Band, who took an amazing First Place in the Fourth Section. This was their first ever venture into any form of competition โ€” well done for all your hard work, and for reaping the rewards!
